The update then is synced to the remote code repository and tested on a second staging server. If we get the expected result we then move on to update the code for the live website.

You should have realized by now that we are paranoid about security. That's why we spend a whole working day each month testing all backups in a testing server. We do manual files and database testing to ensure our backups are ready to import in a disaster recovery scenario. We also have software continuously checking website files for security breaches and for good website and app operation.

What does maintenance actually include?

Scheduled monthly maintenance of the whole system: updates to core, modules, plugins and theme through version control and tested before they go live, continuous security monitoring of your files, and backups of files and database that we test ourselves. Premium support is included, and the people answering are the ones who know your site, not a ticket queue.

Someone else built our site. Will you take it on?

Usually yes. We start with an audit of what is there, the platform version, the code quality, what is outdated and what is already broken, and we tell you what it takes to bring it to a maintainable state. If the site cannot be maintained safely, we will say so instead of charging a monthly fee to hold it together.

Will updates break our site?

Any update can break something, which is exactly why they are never applied directly to the live site. They go to a development server first and get tested, then sync through our repository to staging and are tested again, and only then do we touch the live site. If something misbehaves, the live site never saw it.

Are backups included, and does anyone check they work?

They are included, and yes: we spend one working day every month restoring and checking backups on a test server, files and database both. A backup nobody has ever restored is not a backup, it is a hope.

What happens if the site goes down at 2am?

Support runs 24/7 and monitoring usually tells us before you notice. The people who answer already know your site and its history, and that is what shortens the distance between the message and the fix.
