Back-end Developer (project based)

If you’ve ever shipped a fix at 2am because an edge case decided to become a personality… and you still love this job… welcome.

wefixit runs multiple web projects with varying complexity, mostly in the PHP ecosystem (and yes, we love Drupal). We’re growing our freelance network: people we can bring in on an hourly agreement for builds, upgrades, maintenance, performance work, and the occasional “why is production doing that” investigation. This is not a full-time in-house position.

We don’t expect everyone to walk in knowing our exact stack. We care more about your ability to learn quickly, reason clearly, and write code you’re proud to attach your name to.

What you’ll do

  • Build, extend, and maintain websites and web applications (mostly Drupal, sometimes WordPress).

  • Plan solutions, estimate tasks, and collaborate with the team to ship reliably.

  • Work with modern dev workflows and tooling (Composer, Docker, Git, CI, Jira, etc.).

  • Debug production issues and prevent them from coming back.

  • Maintain and harden existing sites (security updates, refactors, stability improvements).

  • Think in systems: performance, caching, database behavior, and long-term maintainability.

What we’re looking for (must have)

  • Solid PHP fundamentals + real-world development experience (we’ll want to see work/code).

  • Understanding of OOP (and ideally functional patterns where appropriate).

  • Comfortable with Web APIs and integrating systems.

  • Strong Git workflow habits (branches, PRs, code review).

  • Working knowledge of HTML/CSS/JS (enough to collaborate end-to-end).

  • Self-driven learning, clear communication, ownership mindset.

Nice to have

  • Drupal 8+ commercial experience, Symfony familiarity.

  • Custom module development and Drupal API knowledge.

  • Performance optimization (Drupal/MySQL, caching, profiling).

  • Drush, Composer-first thinking, CI/CD comfort.

  • Familiarity with React or modern front-end workflows.

  • Agile/Sprint experience.

Engagement & perks (freelance-style)

  • Hourly compensation based on experience + task scope.

  • Interesting projects, good tooling, and a team that respects clean engineering.

  • Potential for ongoing work through maintenance retainers and new builds.

Equal opportunity: we hire humans, not stereotypes.

We are always looking for passionate people to join our team (well, more like a family). A small group of people crazy enough to think they can change the world and create a fun relationship for ordinary people interacting with technology. We believe in expansion, both as a company and as individuals.

Be strongly advised that we are highly addictive. If you do get accepted, you might want to stay with us for the rest of your life. Think you are ready? Sounds like fun? YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

PS: English is intentional.
PS2: We believe in the hire slow fire fast model.
